Why restored beats new

Four reasons.

01

Better wood than new

Old-growth Kerala teak is denser and more durable than anything available today. This wood was felled when forests were old. You cannot buy it new at any price.

02

04

Genuinely eco-first

Truly unique

Modern finish

Zero new trees felled. Zero factory emissions. We rescue furniture that would otherwise be lost, neglected, or broken apart for firewood. Every Aura piece is an act of preservation.

No two Aura pieces are identical. Your piece has a grain, a history, and a character that mass production cannot replicate at any price. It is the only one

Restored with Scandinavian-influenced sensibility — clean lines, updated upholstery, contemporary hardware. Heritage wood, brought into the present without apology.

Where we find it

Kerala's old homes
hold extraordinary wood.

The old bungalows, estates, and Syrian Christian household homes of Kottayam contain decades of extraordinary teak and rosewood furniture — built in an era when wood was selected carefully, and craftsmanship was non-negotiable.

The Palakkad-Thrissur belt and Kottayam's old Christian homes are Kerala's furniture archaeology — pieces built to last centuries, sitting in homes that have moved on to modular kitchens and steel wardrobes. We find them before they disappear.

Our expert sources each piece personally, assessing wood quality and restoration potential before we commit. Every piece that enters our workshop meets our standard — or it does not come in. We have turned away more pieces than we have taken.

We pay fair price for quality old teak, rosewood, and solid hardwood from Kerala homes.

How every piece is made new

The restoration process.

Sourcing and assessment

Our expert visits the home, assesses the wood quality, structural integrity, and restoration potential. We pay fair price on the spot. Only pieces that meet our standard come in.

Finish and upholstery

Every Aura piece is stripped to raw wood. Decades of varnish, paint, and neglect removed. The grain is revealed as if for the first time. This step alone takes days.

Every joint is checked and retightened. Damaged sections repaired using matching wood. Our principle: repair with the same species and grain direction — no visible repairs, only improvements.

Natural oil, tung oil, or French polish finish — chosen to complement the wood's character. New upholstery in Scandinavian-influenced fabrics: linen, bouclé, cord. New hardware where needed.

What Aura means

Not just furniture.

"Old-growth Kerala teak has a density and character that modern plantation timber simply cannot replicate. When you hold a piece from the 1960s, you can feel the difference in your hands. We are preserving something irreplaceable.

Our restoration craftsman

"Kerala's Syrian Christian homes hold some of the finest teak furniture in existence. These were families who built for generations — not for a decade. Every piece we find carries that intention.
